"I Am a Child of God" Marika Lee's Hymn & Scripture Study Sundays

The story behind the song:
This song came about as leaders of the children in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The Primary leaders) were planning a Primary conference program. They asked Naomi Randall to write a new song with the help of Mildred Pettit. These two ladies had never met before. They discussed the project by telephone. This wiki article shares a quote from Naomi Randall on how the song came about in the middle of the night after much prayer. She said the words just “came to my mind” and she “immediately got up and began to write the words down.” The words were then given to Mildred Pettit who returned the tune for the special message by sending them from California to Utah via special delivery mail. It was received within a week of her having been given the words. The chorus originally read “Teach me all that I must know To live with him some day. Spencer W. Kimball loved the song when he heard it, but was concerned with one word. He asked if Naomi Randal would consider changing the word “know” to the word “do”. Doing, after all is what is of greatest importance in our lives, more so than what we know. She had no problem with the change and that is how it is sung today.
