Like every year, we read a Christmas story and scripture and sing a Christmas song. Since I posted this for you all daily last year, I am just going to link to those posts for you here. If you click on the link, you will be able to see the scripture, story and song for the day. Come back to get each new day's advent readings!

We get to start this warm and fuzzy tradition with a scripture from Isaiah 7:14, sing Angels We Have Heard on High, and read the beloved story The Gift of the Magi. That is for December 1. Click on consecutive days to see what each day's reading holds.

Pictures from Mama Rika (Christmas)

Watch out! Here they come! Sorry, but there will be a bunch of posts here as I catch up on pictures!

And the stockings were hung from the bookcase with care...

And joyfully opened the next morning.Or just with complete wonderment as to what it was all about. {Focus on baby, not outt-of-focus Mom}Some wait in unusual places for their turn to open stockings. No one opened their presents prematurely.First, Mary and Joseph must travel in their "authentic" costumes to Bethlehem. The narrator, wise men and the holy family all are part of the wonderful story. The little wandering shepherd got to hold baby Jesus. He also helped the narrator. And then came the gifts. We love to get lots of gifts, so we wrap socks, pencils and anything else we are in need of just to increase our bounty. ;)
Some "Y's" boys ready for gift opening.

Mama Rika's Christmas Countdown Story, Scripture and Song AND Activity December 24

SCRIPTURE
Mosiah 3:5-8 “For behold, the time cometh, and is not far distant, that with power the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay, and shall go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles…and he shall be called Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning.”

SONG
Silent Night

STORY
The Story Behind Silent Night

The real Christmas story:
Luke 1:26-38, 46, 47
Luke 2:1-20
Matthew 2:1-14

ACTIVITY
This activity is entitled “Teach the Children”. I have a small bag from which we draw forth each of the symbols of Christmas as we read the story. Each symbol is just a tiny replica of the much bigger ones we see at Christmas time—a wreath, a bow, a star, etc. We gently pass around each piece as the story is told and the last person places the item back in the bag.

This is the final Christmas Story, Scripture and Song blog post. I will be putting this tradition on my website (www.completelee.com) under the "Family Life" section as I work towards significantly upgrading my site. This way, next year you can refer to this Christmas tradition all in one place and don't have to wait for my daily postings. (Sorry I was a little slow on a couple of days!)

If you enjoyed this tradition, stick around because you may enjoy my new series that will start in January. What is it? "Enhance Your Life in Five Minutes!" Through this series, I will give you an idea a day for 20 days in January of things you can do that will enrich your life but take very little time. Why 20 days? What kinds of things? Will there be any sort of accountability on my part? Will it be fun? Well, you'll just have to keep reading my blog so you don't miss the answers to those and other burning questions! :)

Love these posts? Feel free to share posts via email wth your friends, share a link to my blog, or grab the code on the side bar and put an image and a link from your blog (or website) to mine.

Wishing you all a wonderful, magical, beautiful, glorious, merry, loving, Christ-filled Christmas day!

4 Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.

STORY
Pattern of Love by Jack Smith

I didn't question Timmy; age nine, or his seven-year-old brother, Billy about the brown wrapping paper they passed back and forth between them as we visited each store.

Every year at Christmas time, our Service Club takes the children from poor families in our town on a personally conducted shopping tour. I was assigned Timmy and Billy, whose father was out of work. After giving them the allotted $4.00 each, we began our trip. At different stores I made suggestions, but always their answer was a solemn shake of the head, no. Finally, I asked, "Where would you suggest we look?"
"Could we go to a shoe store, Sir?" answered Timmy. "We'd like a pair of shoes for our Daddy so he can go to work". "

In the shoe store the clerk asked what the boys wanted. Out came the brown paper. "We want a pair of work shoes to fit this foot," they said. Billy explained that it was a pattern of their Daddy's foot. They had drawn it while he was asleep in a chair.

The clerk held the paper against a measuring stick, then walked away. Soon, he came with an open box, "Will these do? " he asked. Timmy and Billy handled the shoes with great eagerness. "How much do they cost?" asked Billy? Then Timmy saw the price on the box. "They're $16.95, "he said in dismay. "We only have $8.00."

I looked at the clerk and he cleared his throat. "That's the regular price," he said, "but they're on sale; $3.98, today only." Then, with shoes happily in hand the boys bought gifts for their mother and two little sisters. Not once did they think of themselves.

The day after Christmas the boy's father stopped me on the street. The new shoes were on his feet, gratitude was in his eyes. "I just thank Jesus for people who care," he said. "And I thank Jesus for your two sons," I replied. "They really taught me more about Christmas in one evening than I had learned in a lifetime."
